Plans, credit pools, infrastructure billing, and invoicing

How Billing Works

Scalix Cloud uses two billing mechanisms:

1. Credit Pool — Your plan price becomes your monthly credit pool. All development services (AI, functions, KV, events, etc.) draw from this pool.
2. Infrastructure Billing — Long-running services (databases, storage, hosting) are metered and billed monthly to your payment method, separate from the credit pool.

Billing Country & Currency

Your billing country is determined once, at signup, and everything else follows from it — currency, payment provider, taxes, and the legal entity that invoices you:

Prices are set natively in each currency — Indian plan and usage prices are real ₹ price points, not a converted dollar amount, and your balance, usage, and invoices all display in your account's currency. You can correct your billing country in Billing → Tax profile before your first payment; after the first payment it is fixed to your payment provider.

Plans

scalix-lumio-lite is generally available today and is the default model on every plan. Higher tiers (scalix-lumio-pro, scalix-candela) are announced and coming soon.

Chat Plus is the plan for the Scalix Chat app (PWA) only; the cloud platform plans are Free through Enterprise.

Free tier: Every plan includes 1,000,000 scalix-lumio-lite tokens/month (500k input + 500k output). Beyond that, overage is billed at $0.15/1M input and $0.60/1M output tokens.

The credit pool is prepaid usage — like loading credits on a cloud account. When the pool runs out:

• Overage off (the default): Development services pause and reads continue to work. Infrastructure services covered by the separate infrastructure-billing mandate keep running. Your data is safe.
• Overage on: Usage continues and the excess is charged on your next invoice, up to the monthly spending cap you set.

Overage billing is opt-in and off by default, and available on any paid plan (not the Free plan). Before you can enable it you must set a monthly spending cap — you choose the limit, and usage stops once it is reached. Configure both in Billing → Usage.

These require a separate opt-in with a payment method. Usage is metered monthly.

To enable infrastructure billing, go to Billing → Infrastructure in the console and add a payment method.

Spending Caps

Each plan has a default spending cap for overage protection:

Set or adjust your monthly spending cap in Billing → Usage. Enabling overage billing requires a cap you have set yourself — the platform never picks one for you.

Invoices & Tax

Invoices are generated monthly and include:

• Plan subscription charge
• Credit pool overage (if applicable)
• Infrastructure usage (metered)
• Tax (GST, VAT, or local tax based on your country)

Who does what: Stripe and Razorpay handle payment processing and payment security (3-D Secure/SCA, UPI authorization, saved cards and mandates). Tax calculation and invoicing are done by Scalix — your invoice is issued by the Scalix legal entity for your billing country, with the correct tax treatment for it. Tax is only ever charged where the issuing entity holds a tax registration; where it doesn't (or where your country levies no tax on the supply), your invoice shows no tax line. Prices shown in the console exclude tax.

Tax is automatically determined from your billing country. Indian customers see CGST + SGST or IGST. EU B2B customers with a valid VAT ID receive reverse charge (0% VAT) and self-account for VAT locally.

European Union: we currently serve EU customers business-to-business only. An EU billing country requires a business VAT ID on your tax profile before a paid checkout; the reverse-charge mechanism then applies and no VAT is added to your invoice.

Every invoice is issued by the legal entity for your billing country with its own sequential invoice number series (SWxxxx-… for Scalix World Private Limited, EFW-YYYY-… for Energy FW Ltd), so your finance team gets a compliant, gap-free series.

View invoices in Billing → Invoices — the table shows each invoice's amount, due date, and payment status, and each invoice includes a detailed tax breakdown.

Payment Methods

• International: Stripe (credit/debit card). Manage cards and download receipts from the hosted billing portal in Billing → Payment.
• India: Razorpay (UPI, cards, net banking). Your card or UPI mandate is authorized at payment time; change or cancel your plan from Billing → Overview. Infrastructure autodebit registers an RBI e-mandate with a ₹ ceiling you set — no single debit can exceed it.

Global availability: the free tier works everywhere. Paid plans require a card (or UPI in India) that your bank allows for international online payments — availability and local currency conversion fees are determined by your card issuer and our payment providers, not by Scalix. Local payment rails beyond UPI (e.g. Pix, Alipay, mobile money) aren't supported yet.

When Credits Run Out

Reads keep working means: GET requests work, POST/PUT/DELETE are blocked. Your data is always safe.

Non-Payment

If a payment fails, we retry automatically at day 3 and day 7. After 14 days, your account enters read-only mode; if payment still hasn't succeeded, services are suspended 2 days later (around day 16). Data is retained for 60 days before deletion.
